Parents' Weekend
Oct. 19th, 2011 10:17 amParents' Weekend is this weekend. For those who are new, it is the open day where family can come and talk to the teachers and see how their children are going. Like the Parent-Teacher Night, only for the whole weekend.
I know many people here do not have the blood family - I am one of them now. But I was thinking. Family is more than the people whose genetics we are sharing; it is about those people who take a certain place in our hearts, who fill the role of family, even without the genetic connection. So I wanted to perhaps talk about that.
Who in your life do you consider family?

An Invitation
Oct. 3rd, 2011 12:05 pmThere is still no word of Jared. When he left during the summer, I was hoping that he would realise the good he could do here and come back, but I suppose he is too stubborn. I hope he is all right.
In other news, those of you at ESU might have seen the posters for the Alternative Homecoming Dance. Just so everyone knows, it is open to ESU students and their guests - mutant, lgbt, those with disabilities, ESL and those who never had a Homecoming dance at their school for various reasons. Also, Xavier's high school seniors are also invited - some of the mutant-specific schools were chosen to be invited as the educational experience.
Amara, Dori, Marius, Kyle, Jean-Phillipe and myself are all ESU students. Who would like to be our guests?

Is it usual...
Aug. 29th, 2011 05:20 pmIs it usual for the first year students to look so young?
Today was the first day back for the Empire State University students. Not such a bad day for the start, especially after all the rain from the weekend storms, and my classes seem to be more interesting this year. Hopefully it will be easier with people who are used to me also!

End of summer
Aug. 17th, 2011 11:53 amClasses start back at Empire State on August 29, only two weeks away! How fast the summer has gone!
I thought it would be a good idea to have some kind of 'end of summer' party, perhaps a BBQ? Something for everyone to be getting together and enjoying the warm weather before we all go back to school and such?

Thank you, everyone, for the birthday wishes! And especially Kevin, for the surprise in my room! It is lovely and I do not think I will ever take it down! And Molly, thank you for the apple-y lip gloss which smells delicious and to Doctor Jean for the scarf. It is very pretty. :)
Is everyone ready for my party? I know I am!

You Are All Invited...
Aug. 5th, 2011 11:47 amIt is my 19th birthday on Monday (August 8, by the way) and I have arranged for a party at Silver.
No, I am not the pod person. The people at Silver were very nice and have let us have access to the VIP room, so it is not so crowded for the Untouchables. They have also arranged for the all ages access - we underage people will be wearing the special bracelets so we cannot ask for drinks.
So! Everyone is invited to my party. Monday evening, starting at 9:00 p.m. I hope to see you all there!

We are back from Kosovo. It is turning out that my mother did not die of a stroke; she killed herself. Also, I will not be welcome back with the family any more.
So, not the best vacation. I did at least talk to my half-sister. She is not exactly comfortable with the circumstances of us being related, but she is willing to talk to me, at least.
Thank you to everyone who is sending the well wishes. It is good to be home, where my true family is.

So, the Prom is happening in two days, and while there is music and food organised, there is still a lot to do! I was going to email people directly, but there were so many emails I decided it would be easier to posthere and hope other people jump in to be helping too. :)
Decorations: So far it is just Sarah and myself to decorate the ballroom, and since I am so short, it is not being terribly effective. I still need people to help with setting up the tables and the banquet area, as well as decorate them. People who are strong to set up the stage and the equipment for the band would also be very helpful.
I did have the idea, however: Klara and Callie, if you have time, would I be able to borrow you and your powers? I want to have wisteria and rose vines along the walls and ceiling instead of streamers and balloons. Much prettier, yes? And environment friendly!
Chaperones: Since the student body isn't very big, we will not be needing too many chaperones. Jean-Phillipe and I will be there, and we need two more people to help.
Refreshments: There will be Mexican food, thanks to Angelo's friend Mama Lupe. Not all of it will explode your face. ;)
Guests: While Prom in other schools is normally for just the seniors, because Xavier's is so small it is really the open-invitation sort of party. There will also be the after-party at Harry's for the people who are over 21, where Garrison's friend Johnny is playing. All of the students are invited to come, and bring anyone they want to bring. The usual security policy does apply, so make sure you give a teacher or one of the X-Men your guest's details for the checking.
